1 - Pearson Edexcel Curriculum for Reception 1 & Reception 2 (Ages 3–4 Years)
The Pearson Edexcel Early Years Curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation for young learners, focusing on holistic development through engaging, play-based, and structured learning experiences. It aligns with international early childhood education standards and helps children develop essential skills for future academic success.

Reception 1 (Age 3–4 Years)
In Reception 1, the focus is on early development and foundational learning through structured play, exploration, and guided activities. The key areas of learning include:
1. Communication and Language Development
- Encouraging listening and speaking skills
- Developing vocabulary through storytelling, songs, and conversations
- Building confidence in expressing thoughts and needs
2. Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED)
- Learning to interact positively with peers and teachers
- Encouraging independence and self-care skills
- Understanding emotions and practicing empathy
3. Physical Development
- Enhancing fine motor skills (holding pencils, cutting, coloring)
- Developing gross motor skills (jumping, running, balance)
- Introducing healthy habits and personal hygiene
4. Early Mathematics
- Recognizing numbers and counting (1–20)
- Sorting, matching, and pattern recognition
- Introduction to basic shapes and spatial awareness
5. Literacy Development
- Exploring letters and early phonics (letter sounds and recognition)
- Encouraging a love for books through storytelling
- Practicing pre-writing skills (tracing, drawing, and mark-making)
6. Understanding the World
- Exploring nature, seasons, and simple science concepts
- Learning about family, community, and different cultures
- Basic technology awareness through interactive learning
7. Expressive Arts and Design
- Engaging in painting, music, and imaginative play
- Encouraging creativity through arts and crafts
- Developing rhythm and movement through dance and songs
Pearson Edexcel iPrimary is a complete, six year programme for use in International Primary Schools. As well as the curriculum itself, the programme also comes with a wealth of support with sample Schemes of Work, exemplified Units of Work, internally assessed Progress Tests, externally assessed Achievement tests and a comprehensive Professional Development programme – all supported by world-renowned Pearson print and digital courseware.
- The Pearson Edexcel iPrimary English curriculum is designed specifically for non-native speakers of English who are studying the majority of their curriculum subjects in English. Taking the best approaches of a first language curriculum and combining them with EAL progression, scaffolding and support, students will be well prepared for further study at iLowerSecondary and on to International GCSEs in either English as a First or English as a Second Language.
- The Pearson Edexcel iPrimary Mathematics curriculum has been created as an internationalised, updated version of the latest English National Curriculum (2014).
Providing a strong foundation in mathematics, the curriculum introduces and reinforces concepts that lay the groundwork for lower secondary education and on to International GCSE Mathematics and beyond.
- With a strong emphasis on developing scientific enquiry skills and content designed to support enquiry-based learning, the Pearson Edexcel iPrimary Science curriculum is based on the latest version of the English National Curriculum (2014), but with the international student in mind.
- Our Computing programme has been developed in conjunction with leading education and industry experts to ensure that the skills being developed at primary and lower secondary level prepare students for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE and beyond. Pearson Edexcel iPrimary Computing will equip students to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science and information technology and be responsible, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
